Congratulations to 5th grader Zoe Yi, who placed 10th at the 2018 USA Climbing: Bouldering Youth National Championship, held February 9-11 in Salt Lake City, UT.
Zoe’s love for climbing started two years ago after she attended a climbing camp. She soon joined a local climbing team, The Wall Climbing Gym, and has been competing ever since. This weekend’s national competition began with 50 climbers in Zoe’s age division. Zoe qualified for the semifinals after placing 13th in the qualifying round. In the semifinals, 20 girls, age 10 and under, were competing for one of ten spots in the finals. Zoe secured her spot in the finals, and went on to place 10th overall.
Zoe said, “My goal going into the competition was to score higher than I did last time I competed at Nationals when I got a 12th place. I had a lot of fun and achieved my goal.”
You can watch one of Zoe’s climbs here – she can be seen at the 3:22 mark.
Congratulations Zoe!
