This year, The Rhoades School is growing our service learning theme from last year (Food Waste) to examine ways we can put our food waste to work. On October 17 and 18, the Solana Center of Encinitas visited the school and led assemblies for all students on composting and sustainable development. The tagline for their presentation was “Waste to Wealth,” where students learned about vermicomposting and had a hands-on experience with worms and composting.
Solana Center also donated a composting bin that will reside outside the Kindergarten classrooms. We are excited to pursue this service learning project as a community this year.
