The Rhoades School has on loan Revolutionary War at Sea Trunks from The Society of the Cincinnati in Washington, DC. The Society of the Cincinnati is the nation’s oldest patriotic organization, founded in 1783 by officers of the Continental Army and their French counterparts who served together in the American Revolution. The trunks contain sailors’ uniforms, artifacts such as a sextant and compass, maps, books, and lesson plans. Dr. Watts is using the lesson plans and artifacts to explore a side of the Revolutionary War that was crucial to securing independence with the support of the French navy. Thank you to the Society of the Cincinnati for providing these incredible resources for free to schools.
