STEM Home / Academics / STEM Learning and Growing with STEM At our school, students learn in exciting ways to prepare for their future. They use design thinking to solve problems and try new ideas. Our STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) program helps them understand problems, come up with solutions, and build models of their ideas. They also learn that it is okay to make mistakes, grow from them, and keep trying. In kindergarten through 3rd grade, our students use apps on iPads® for independent and group work. Starting in 4th grade, each child gets their own iPad. In 4th and 5th grade, they use their iPad at school. Our middle school students can use their devices both at home and at school. These tools help them work as a team, think creatively, solve problems, and learn more about the world around them. School Events in STEM Slide 1 Slide 2 Science Fair (All Grades) Our Science Fair is a fun way for our students to showcase their amazing projects. Our younger students invite their families to join hands-on experiments, while our older students present their projects to interested audiences. Music, Technology, and Engineering Expo (Middle School) Music, Technology, and Engineering Expo (Middle School) At this exciting event, our students share projects from their music, technology and engineering classes. They use design thinking to create and show off what they have learned. Science Fair (All Grades) Spaces on Our Campus IDEA Lab (Lower School) In kindergarten through 5th grade, students use the IDEA Lab to invent, explore, and build. The lab is like the Thinkabit Lab at Qualcomm, with tools like 3D printers, laptops, circuits, and LEGO robotics. This special space helps students work like real scientists and engineers. ET Lab (Middle School The Middle School Engineering and Technology Lab allows students to use creativity, perseverance, and problem-solving skills to engage in design challenges and engineering projects. They use tools like our Ultimaker 3D printer, VEX robotics, Arduino microcontrollers, LEGO robotics, and coding software on MacBook Air laptops. Music & Recording Studios From 3rd grade through 8th grade, students can create their own music in our recording studios on both campuses. They use Yamaha keyboards, iPads, Cubase software and MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) to write, compose, edit, and record their own music. These studios benefit students in other disciplines as they create podcasts, plays, films, and documentaries. Student Awards in STEM Math Competitions Our students shine in math competitions. Highlights include national awards for American Mathematics Competitions 8, top 25% team results in MathCounts, national awards in Math Kangaroo, and top 5% in Math Olympians for Elementary Schools. Science Fair Each year, many of our Middle School students take part in the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair. They win top prizes, earn special awards, and even qualify for state-level competitions like the California Science and Engineering Fair.
