Field Study Home / Academics / Field Study Beyond the Classroom Project-based learning is embedded in our curriculum. Students are able to explore the community and make real-world connections to what they are learning. In kindergarten through 3rd grade, our students may take day trips to visit the San Diego Zoo, the Ocean Institute, or the Birch Aquarium. To end their elementary years, our 5th grade students spend a week exploring Native American historic sites in New Mexico. Our 6th grade students visit AstroCamp in Idyllwild for three days as part of their astronomy studies. In 7th grade, our students explore Catalina Island for a week to attend the Catalina Island Marine Institute. In 8th grade, they spend a week visiting landmarks in Washington D.C. 2024-25 Overnight Field Trips 5th Grade : SWIFT May 19-23, 2025 Teacher Chaperones: Jeff Nolan, Julie Gunther, Syd Molenkamp 6th Grade: Astro Camp October 21-23, 2024 Teacher Chaperone: Paul Ruppert 7th Grade: Catalina Island November 11-15, 2024 Teacher Chaperone: Paul Ruppert 8th Grade: Washington D.C.
