Mr. Ron Florentine - Middle School & Lower School Music Specialist
While I was getting my music degree in composition and orchestral film scoring in Los Angeles, I had the privilege of studying with many amazing, world renowned composers and arrangers. I studied arranging and compositional technique with Henry Mancini (Pink Panther, Moon River), Nelson Riddle (arranger for Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Peggy Lee and Linda Ronstadt), Lalo Schifrin (Mission Impossible) and Bill Conti (Rocky). After graduating from the Grove School of Music (1982-87), I went on to receive the prestigious BMI Young Composers Award which gave me the opportunity to work as an intern with Earl Hagen (Disney/Warner Bros.) and to compose music for various film and television spots with the Warner Bros. studio orchestra.
After completing my internship, I worked for several film production companies including Lorimar- Malibu Bay Films and Concord-New Horizons Corp. as well as composing commercial jingles for national companies including Toyota and Mazda while working as a staff writer and arranger for the Sen Jen project at Epic Records. In 1990 I decided to get away from the traffic and craziness of Los Angeles and move to beautiful San Diego to pursue my passion for composing, recording and teaching. In 1994 I established Soundswest Recording Studio and Production Company and since then I have produced, arranged and recorded music for many artists who have been featured on local and national television and radio stations. (Collin Elliott, Peggy Lebo, Hilary Michels, Rachel Renee, Kerry Michael Warren).
In 2003 I was honored to join the faculty at The Rhoades School. Since then I have developed a unique and creative music program that incorporates music technology with the academic study of music fundamentals.
